WRTG 1320 Assignment 4RESEARCH PROPOSALSpring 2012

The Assignment:
Write a two page topic proposal using MLA format in which you propose your research question and the reasons you would like to approach the issue. This assignment is worth 10% of the total grade for the course.
How-to:
You will be focusing your research on the topic you explored in response to the critical analysis and synthesis essays. The specific issue you select should be one that can be addressed in the space and time allowed, and by someone with your level of expertise. In other words, be wary of issues that are too technical, learned, or specialized.
In your proposal, define your research by answering each of the following:
  • What am I writing about? (topic)

  • What am I going to explore about the topic? (issue)

  • Why am I writing about this topic? (purpose)

  • Why should my readers(s) be interested in my controlling idea? (audience)

Prepare your proposal in essay format. Include an introduction and conclusion. Be sure that the introduction contains a thesis. Please highlight the thesis. Your proposal should show that you’ve spent time thinking about the topic and possible approaches. Do not just list the question and then write the answer. If you allude to the work of others in your proposal, credit them appropriately.
I will approve your research during peer review week.

Requirements:
  • Please write in present tense. You may write in first person, if appropriate.

  • I must approve your proposal before you are cleared to use it as the basis for your research. If I don't approve your first proposal, I will work with you when possible to modify your choice. Please be aware that responsibility for gaining approval rests with you. Final papers written on topics/issues that have not been approved will not be graded and you will fail the course.

  • Cite all outside sources, if you use them. Include a Work Cited Page, and prepare using MLA format. Failure to cite outside sources or include a Work Cited page will result in a grade of F for the paper.

  • Please ensure that the proposal turned in for grading represents a significant revision to the first draft.

  • The final revision of the proposal must measure a minimum of two full pages.
